Clean Up Australia Day

by Yui Fujisawa
(Kanagawa-ken)

Australia is a beautiful country. There is a wide variety of land forms, climate, animals, and plants ― and, the beautiful sea.

Recently, as public awareness of environmental protection increases, more environmental protection activities have been held.

Do you know "Clean Up Australia Day"? It is the movement of picking up garbage, which Ian Kiernan, a man from Australia, started. He thought to clean his hometown Sydney first.

Responding to his appeal, the movement of "The day of picking up garbage" started as "Clean Up Sydney Harbor Day" in 1989, and from then, it became a large-scale volunteer activity. The next year, 1990, it spread in the whole of Australia and became "Clean Up Australia Day."

I think it is very important for people to be concerned about their country's environment to keep Australia's natural beauty forever.

If you have a chance to go to Australia, please participate in "Clean Up Australia Day"!

I think we should act ourselves to save natural environment.
Voluntarily thinking or acting by each people is very important for this, so this activity is great!
