Does the Alpico bus you mentioned run all season?

by Chai
(Singapore)

Hi Gary,

I went up Mt. Kita-dake, Onanjiyama at Mt. Tateyama, and Mistutoke around Fuji last year.

Planning to climb tsurugi this July to Sept. i have 3 questions (1) the alpico bus you mentioned, does it run all season? (2) notice from photos, a number of climbers on tsurugi wear safety carabiners, many also dont. what's your sense of safety factor of one not wearing. (3) Disturbing reading the seismic activity around Fuji and prediction eruption by 2015. are there similar comments from Tokyo U seismic department?

Hi Chai,

>(1) the alpico bus you mentioned, does it run all season?

I don't think so. I believe summer bus schedules will be posted to
their site in April: http://sawayaka.alpico.co.jp/

>(2) notice from photos, a number of climbers on tsurugi wear safety carabiners, many also don't. what's your sense of safety factor of one not wearing?

I've been climbing Japanese peaks for nearly 22 yrs. & have never used any kind of equipment.

>(3) are there similar comments from Tokyo U seismic department?

Not that I'm aware of. My latest info is here:

Another excellent source for Japanese mountain climbing info is the "Hiking
in Japan" Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/9872778764/

Best wishes,
Gary
