How do you make reservations for Mt. Fuji mountain huts?

by Lori
(United Kingdon)

My husband and I really want to climb Mount Fuji when we visit in July/Aug. However, It seems impossible to make a reservation for a space at a mountain hut if you don't speak Japanese. The ones that have English websites clearly state 'no credit cards'.

Does anyone know how we can do this? We live in the UK and speak no Japanese!

Thanks.

Speak slowly & use easy English! :-)
by: Gary Wolff

Lori, you'll need to just call (or skype) the Mt. Fuji mountain hut ("office") numbers on this page: https://www.garyjwolff.com/mt-fuji-mountain-huts.html

Some huts have staff who can speak a little English, but if not, if you speak slowly & use easy English, maybe there won't be a problem.

Basically, they'll be asking:
1) Date(s) of stay
2) Your name (please spell it out slowly)
3) # of males & females in your group
4) Whether or not you will require meals (dinner and/or breakfast)

To increase your chances for successful communications, you could always go to Google Translate (https://translate.google.com/#en/ja/) in advance and learn the Japanese for just a few words or expressions like how to say "reservations, please" ("yoyaku onegaishimasu").

Best wishes...

Gary
