How is the Kamikochi to Oku-hotaka-dake to Yari-ga-take route at the beginning of April 2015?

Hi,

Do you perhaps know how the route* is at the beginning of April? (in 2 weeks from now!)

(* Kamikochi - Oku-hotaka-dake - Yari-ga-take)

And do you perhaps know how Daikiretto compares to the Cirque du Soltitude on the GR20 on Corsica? I experienced the Cirque du Soltitude as very doable, but also no place for mistakes...

Jelmer, I'm not a big fan of snow nor off-season climbing, so you've probably asked the wrong person, but one thing I can tell you for sure is that you can count on a LOT of snow up there till I guess around late June.

Plus, many if not most of the mountain huts (e.g. Dakesawa-goya, Hotaka-dake-sanso, & Yari-ga-take-sanso) will still be closed till the last week of April (just before the national Golden Week holiday period), so you'd be up there on your own. Sadly, there are a rash of mountain climbing deaths in Japan's high country every year during Golden Week.

Off-season climbing has never been my cup of tea, 'cause in my mind, the risks have always greatly outweighed the pleasures.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Cirque du Soltitude.

Best wishes to you...
