How well marked are the trails from Mt. Fuji's base to the 5th Station?

Gary,

I want to try to climb the old pilgrim route on the Yoshida trail from the shrine at the base of the mountain. How well marked are the trails from the base to the 5th Station, and will there be many people? I will be climbing in mid-August by myself.

Jennifer

Maybe no problem

Jennifer, I'm not aware of any issues with signage on the pilgrim route.

And although I don't believe traffic stats are available for the pilgrim route, I doubt very many people climb it, with the exception of on July 24, 2015 when this route was used by the 68th Annual Fuji Mountain Race.

You might like to read the account of a fella from Texas who failed on the pilgrim route and also hiked by himself: My Mt. Fuji Climbing Experience. His story is also featured in my Climbing Mt. Fuji book.

More details on this route, including links to maps are here: Climbing from the Base to the Summit of Mt. Fuji

Take LOTS of water. :-)

Best wishes...

Cheers,
Gary
