Is it OK to climb Mt. Fuji via the Yoshida trail on September 30, 2021?

Dear Gary,

Thank you for your website, which is very useful. I just read your latest post about climbing mount Fuji:

"GAME OVER!! The Yoshida trail has now been closed for the winter from Izumigataki (a short walk from the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station) to the Mt. Fuji summit."

Would you know by any chance the reason why authorities closed the Yoshida trail? Could it be because the weather conditions are already so bad? Would you know if the other trails are still open?

I was planning to climb Fuji via the Yoshida trail on September 30th.

Thank you and best regards,
Adrien

Better to wait till next year...

Adrien, all 4 trails close on September 10 every year. Although there are still some trails you can hike around the 5th station, climbing up to the summit is prohibited, without special permission and precautions.

Although I sometimes read about hikers breaking the rules and hiking past the barriers, off-season climbing is discouraged by national park officials for a million reasons.

For more details, please check out this Q&A, https://www.garyjwolff.com/climbing-mt-fuji.html#2, then click open "Three Rules for Off-season Climbers of Mt. Fuji."

If I were you, I would put it on your bucket list for 2022. Thanks for visiting my site...

Best wishes,
Gary
