Kita-dake day-trip from Kofu possible?

Relying entirely on public transport, is it possible to climb Kita-dake as a day trip from Kofu? You mentioned in one of the comments a 4:20am bus from Kofu to the Hirogawara trailhead. What time was the last bus from Hirogawa trailhead to Kofu in 2013 say around early October? I guess that would determine whether or not it was possible. And assuming they stuck to the same timetable in 2014.

My plan would be to catch a train from Tokyo in the afternoon, stay in a hotel overnight in Kofu, then catch that extremely early bus to the trailhead, do the trailhead-summit-trailhead walk in say 11 hours, then catch the bus back to Kofu, and train back to Tokyo that afternoon/evening.

Possible or a pipe-dream?

Too risky
by: Anonymous

Yeah, sounds too risky. And one place I definitely wouldn't want to take risks is in the mountains. So I guess a two-day walk staying overnight in hut or tent is the only viable option. Thanks for the info.

Pipe dream

In Oct. 2013 the 4:20 am bus from Kofu arriving @ the Hirogawara trailhead @ 6:11 am was available only on Saturdays & Sundays, and the last bus from Hirogawara back to Kofu left @ 16:15.

Another option might be to catch a taxi to the trailhead the night before, which is what I did & for me wasn't too painful 'cause I had a couple friends to share the fare with. :-)

The 2014 timetable will likely be almost exactly the same & I'll link to it next month from my Kita-dake page after it is posted by the bus company.

Best wishes...
