The Large Hadron Collider at CERN

Hopefully this won't become a reality

I'm not very knowledgeable regarding Switzerland, but what I first thought about when I was thinking about it was the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

To be honest, I don't know much about physics either, so I am not 100% sure of what they do there, but you don't have to be to realize or be in awe of the impact their research could have for all of mankind.

I remember around the time that they almost had completed the LHC that there was a lot of worry regarding the fact that it created miniature black holes. Some were worried that the black holes could expand and swallow the whole earth, while others said that even though the machine could create miniature black holes, that they would disappear in less then a second. Someone even created a website to inform you whether the LHC has destroyed the earth yet or not.

Hopefully all fears regarding the black holes have been put to rest since they started using it, as I wouldn't want the earth to disappear because of an experiment. I don't believe it will, but I will leave such questions to smarter people.

Even though I am not entirely sure about the research being done there, I am kind of fascinated by it and I bet it would be a once in a life time opportunity to go there.
