Waiting for the sunrise overnight

Hello, one thing I have not been able to figure out, is whether it is viable to make it to the summit for sunset, and wait (not camp - as I understand it's illegal, but find an area to sit) and wait for the sunrise.

Or is it actually worth going back down and stay in a hut? If so, would you actually go back down the way you went up, or would it be another path?

Also, I am thinking of going up the Kawaguchiko trail, then walk down the Gotemba trail and visit the Hoei crater. Would it make sense to backtrack to the Gotemba trail or switch to the Fujinomiya trail?

Thanks.

Greetings, you raise some interesting questions. I'm afraid I can't help you with the last one, but many people stay overnight in the mountain huts at or near the summit. Here is the most recent Mt. Fuji mountain hut info: https://www.garyjwolff.com/mt-fuji-mountain-huts.html

And this page shows some alternate hiking plans, depending on what time of day you start and how many days you have:

Best wishes !!
