What is another way we can get to the 5th Station from Shinjuku in the early AM?

by Chelsea

Hello,
We are looking to climb Mt Fuji on Tuesday 5th July and will be leaving from our hotel in Shinjuku. Looking at the bus timetables the earliest bus from Shinjuku to 5th Station leaves at 6:40am, however would like to commence our ascent at around 6-6:30am.

Due to time restraints we are looking at completing the climb and descend in 1 day. All Fit hikers. What is another way we can get to 5th Station from Shinjuku in the early AM. Would getting a taxi the whole way be the easiest? Or train?

Many Thanks
Chelsea

Is renting a car in Tokyo a reasonable option?
by: Peter

Like Chelsea, We plan to leave Tokyo in the wee hours to begin our hike around 6:30AM and with a lot of luck, be back at the 5th station by 7:30PM. Long day, but it is the only way we could fit Mt. Fuji in. With this timetable, I assume we would beat Tokyo's rush hour traffic in the morning. Will we miss the evening rush hour? Will parking at the 5th station be a problem?

Your site is very informative. Thanks!

Peter

I wouldn't recommend taking a taxi all the way from Shinjuku.
by: Gary Wolff

If your schedule is somewhat flexible, have you thought about spending the night of Monday July 4th in Kawaguchiko or at the Mt. Fuji 5th Station?

The 2016 bus schedules haven't been posted yet, but last year you could catch a bus from Kawaguchiko Station up to the 5th Station arriving as early as 7:30 am: http://www.japan-guide.com/bus/fuji_season.html

Or I've read that the taxi fare from Fujiyoshida/Kawaguichiko up to the 5th Station runs about ¥12,000.

If I understood your question correctly, I don't believe you'd want to take a taxi all the way from Shinjuku... otherwise you'll go bankrupt. :-)

For more detailed information on transport options, the kind folks at the Tokyo Tourist Info Center are very happy to assist foreign tourists: Tel. +81-3-3201-3331, daily from 9:00 to 17:00

Happy trails...
