When will the Fujinomiya Trail open?

by Greg Hoole
(Salt Lake City, UT)

First, thank you for this very informative site. I’m looking forward to reading your e-book, if I can figure out Smashwords. (Is it available on Kindle?)

Anyway, I’ve wanted to climb Fuji-san for more than 20 years, since I lived in Japan for a short time. My son and I are going to be there from July 6th through the 12th. We were planning on hiking it on the 7th.

I read on your site that the Fujinomiya Trail may not be open yet. Is there a source where I can confirm the planned opening for this trail? Can we climb it even if it’s not open? We live in Utah, where we’re accustomed to hiking on snow-packed trails at elevation.

My only concern would be finding a mountain hut to sleep in.

July 10

Thanks, Greg.

The Fujinomiya Trail is scheduled to open all the way to the summit on July 10, unless there's too much snow on the trail then. I'm posting the latest status of the 3 Shizuoka trails here, at the top of my Climbing Mt. Fuji FAQ page. Although the trail is now open to the 6th Station, it's illegal to go past that point until the trail is officially opened up to a higher station.

You can find a list of Fujinomiya trail mountain huts here (2014 data): http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/arrange/travel/practical/pdf/Mt.Hut_Mt.Fuji.pdf

After the updated 2015 mountain hut data becomes available in the first week of July, I'll link to it from the bottom of this page: Mt. Fuji Mountain Huts

Yes, there's a $3.99 Kindle version of my Climbing Mt. Fuji eBook here: http://amzn.to/1f8I1kZ

But it's now on sale for just $2.99 @ Smashwords by entering the coupon code GE59G on this page: https://www.smashwords.com/cart/review/8753046

Finally, I did the Fujinomiya route 3 yrs. ago, so this page might help you: Climbing Mt. Fuji's Fujinomiya Trail

Have a great trip...
